3rd Annual Closing Ceremony of Charming By Design Fashion Apprentice Program
Featured Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 en-USOn August 20, at the Historical Carnegie Building in Washington D.C . the High Tea Society (HTS) brought there 2009 Charming by Design Fashion Apprentice Program to a close. The HTS Charming by Design summer program provides educational and cultural enrichment activities supported by a mentoring program for inner city girls (12 to 18 years of age) enrolled in District of Columbia Public Schools in economically disadvantaged areas.
Makeup, modeling, nails and sewing, the young ladies of the fashion apprentice program learned first hand all there is to know about glitz and glamour, after all their director Mariessa Terrell is no stranger to the fashion industry.
A style maven and fashion lawyer, Terrell has worked with renowned fashion designers and has been known to be planted front row at NY fashion week. She holds quite a few boldface names in her roladex including, Hollywood stylist and muse Sir Andre Leon Tally, Project Runway’s Tim Gunn, and Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion Fern Mallis just to name a few. Terrell has even gone on to successfully produce her own fashion extravaganza, Capital Catwalk now in its 5th season here in the District.
The participants in this years program received certificates of completion, inspiring words of wisdom, but most importantly they walk away with their minds pointed towards a brighter future and a new found inner beauty. The Black Cotillion salutes the High Tea Society for developing such a creative and charming way to increase the economic and social mobility of inner-city girls from economically disadvantaged areas.
