The 3rd Annual Artists For Charity Holiday Benefit
Art, Music, Culture & Lifestyle Tuesday, December 29th, 2009Made up of artists and individuals from all over the world, Artists for Charity (AFC) is a non-profit organization devoted to raising awareness and securing funds for humanitarian causes. It was s founded on the belief that all people, regardless of place of birth, sex, or current medical condition, are entitled to certain basic rights, especially education and healthcare, but that the burden of ensuring that these rights are granted rests equally with society.
The AFC goal is to support the peripheral members of communities, those who lack the means to support themselves. For the past three years AFC has challenged people to think about this and related issues in an annual holiday event in conjunction with World AIDS week. This year’s theme for the holiday benefit was ‘A Taste of Ethiopia,’ offering silent and live art auctions of artwork from painters and photographers including artwork by the AFC Children, live performances, authentic Ethiopian cuisine, and cocktails, showcasing the rich culture and beauty of Ethiopia. In addition to raising funds to support the Children’s Home in Ethiopia, AFC’s 3rd- annual benefit continues to raise awareness on the HIV/AIDS crisis in the D.C. area.
AFC executes its own projects in developing nations where services for such persons are limited, and also supplements basic care for the less fortunate in developed nations. In order to help to lessen the burden imposed on individuals in reduced circumstances, AFC also devotes itself to education and awareness of issues affecting isolated communities. Believing that consciousness is the first step towards action, AFC campaigns to educate so that individuals may also contribute towards bettering the lives of others.
