Southeast Tennis & Learning Center’s 4th Annual Blacks in Wax Program
Art, Music, Culture & Lifestyle, Living Friday, March 12th, 2010 en-USOn Friday March 5, members of the community gathered to celebrate the lives and contributions of African Americans, past and present, in the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center’s (SETLC) 4th Annual Blacks in Wax Program. Sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Recreation Wish List Committee this year’s theme “Lift Every Voice and…STAND,” paid tribute to African Americans in the arts that have used their gifts and celebrity to further justice and humanitarian causes.

More than 75 youth brought history to life portraying artists, from CicelyTyson to Alicia Keys, Harriet Tubman, President Barack Obama, Arthur Ashe, Venus and Serena Williams, and many others. SETLC tennis scholars were featured throughout Black History Month on WHUR FM’s “Moments in Black History.” Click here to listen to excerpts from their 2009 Blacks in Wax program, “From Chains to Change,” courtesy of WHUR 96.3 FM.
