Chasity Melvin of the Washington Mystics Meets with Girls Inc. of Washington D.C.

On July 6, 2010, WNBA Washington Mystics star Chasity Melvin met with Girls Inc. of Washington, D.C. From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. the young ladies of Girls Inc. talked with Chasity about her experience as a professional basketball player, the obstacles she had to overcome to become the strong, independent woman she is today, and why she enjoys giving back to the community.

Girls Inc. of Washington, D.C. facilitated ice-breaker exercises and also assigned college projects for the girls to complete. The girls presented the projects to Chasity and then talked with her about what to expect from her next visit.

The primary purpose of the visit was to become acclimated with the girls and build their trust in Chasity as a leader and role model. Chasity’s meeting with the members of Girls Inc. is a continuation of her relationship with the organization. Previously, Chasity had made a personal visitation to the club at the Ft. David Recreation Center where she facilitated a discussion on the building blocks of being a strong woman.

Chasity enjoyed the experience so much that her WNBA team, The Washington Mystics, hosted a basketball clinic for the members of Girls Inc. The clinic took place on the floor of the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. All of the girls enjoyed the opportunity to participate in basketball drills hosted by the Mystics and they were thrilled to have met a group of the most talented basketball players in the world.
